Siksali Development Centre (SDC) is a regional non-profit organisation in South-Eastern Estonia mainly working in the field of informal and non-formal education and having years of project experience in the social sector. The Centre is situated in the border area, close to Latvia and Russia. This is one of the most underdeveloped parts of the country, with high unemployment and low salaries. The population is constantly decreasing, many people are moving to bigger towns or abroad, parents are often working abroad and hence many problems for youngsters arise. The Centre was established in 2002, in order to help local people to find new ideas for alternative economic activities and assist the target groups to solve the various economic and social problems they are facing. Thus our main target groups are people at risk of social and economical exclusion due to their peripheral location, difficult socio-economical status, unemployment as well as other issues, including disabilities. We are constantly searching for ways how to improve their life, find new job creation possibilties, activating the target groups with the aim of becoming self-employed etc.
In the recent years we have been working with different projects in the social sector: * LdV ToI projects 1) VALORIS-TIQSS - a project aimed to raise the quality of social care and social services, 2007-2009; 2) GEPAP – a project in the social care sector, about development of personalised care plans, 2010-2012 , 3) TRAPREVI – a training project in the social care sector, 2013-2015.

  • from 2009-2011 we were co-ordinating a NORDPLUS Horizontal project "Creation of the Support System Methodology for Work with Social Risk Families"
  • we have run many nationally funded projects with youth, eg Ministry of Justice crime prevention programme etc.

In total, we have completed more than 100 projects (international, national, regional, local) with SDC being the co-ordinator or partner.
Also we have had more than 10 years of cooperation with other European countries and organisations thanks to Leonardo da Vinci and Grundtvig programme, Swedish Institute, Nordic Council of Ministers etc, not to mention the numerous Estonian national programmes. We have hosted tens of mobility projects from all over Europe and sent Estonian youth to camps abroad with Youth programme.

SDC was appointed the official co-operation partner of Estonian Environmental Investment Centre and co-ordinated Environmental Awaress Programme in Võru county from 2003-2009.
