Dr Roger Banks

Dr Roger Banks is National Senior Psychiatric Lead, NHS England and President of the European Association of Mental Health in Intellectual Disability (EAMHID). He is also Director of Books Beyond Words.

Roger Banks is a previous Vice-President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, Fellow of the Institute of Psychotherapy and Disability and immediate past Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges Health Inequalities Forum. In 2007 he was responsible for co-authoring a joint report between the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the British Psychological Society and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists entitled "Challenging Behaviour – A Unified Approach" and he is one of the founding members of the National Strategy Group for Challenging Behaviour (hosted by the Challenging Behaviour Foundation). In 2009-10 he was jointly responsible for drafting "Better Health – Better Lives" the World Health Organisation's Declaration and Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of Children and Young People with Intellectual Disabilities and their Families, and he represented the UK Government at its signing and launch in Bucharest in November 2010. He has been involved with a number of European Projects concerning the training and support of carers of people with Intellectual Disabilities.
